Black Sea boosts Türkiye's natural gas production
The commencement of operations at the Sakarya Natural Gas Production Field led to a significant monthly increase of 2 million cubic meters (mcm) in January, accompanied by a substantial 77 mcm rise compared to last year
According to the January 2024 Natural Gas Sector Report by the Turkish Natural Gas Distributors Association, natural gas production continues to increase with the extraction from the Black Sea.
With the gradual commencement of operations at the Sakarya Natural Gas Production Field, the amount of natural gas produced increased by 2 million cubic meters (mcm) in January compared to the previous month, marking a 77 mcm increase year-over-year.
In January, approximately 75 mcm of natural gas was produced solely from the Sakarya Natural Gas Production Field.
The increase in production has also boosted exports.
Last January, the country exported 6 mcm of natural gas. This January, however, witnessed a total gas export of 152 mcm, comprising 151.4 mcm to Bulgaria and 420,000 cubic meters to North Macedonia.
Consequently, the export volume increased by 146 mcm in a year. The exported gas volume in January 2024 increased by approximately 55 mcm compared to the previous month.
As of January, the total stored natural gas volume increased by 2% compared to the same month last year.
