Bursa exports show resilience: Up by 2.9% to over 180 countries in Q1 2024

Exports from the significant industrial city of Bursa to over 180 countries, free zones and autonomous regions during the January-March 2024 period increased by 2.9% compared to the same period last year, according to a compilation by an Anadolu Agency (AA) reporter based on data from the Türkiye Exporters Assembly.

The highest exports from Bursa were made to Germany, one of Türkiye's major markets, totaling $616.24 million.

Following closely, exports to France reached $371.52 million.

Exports to Italy, which amounted to $280.62 million in the first quarter of last year, saw an increase of 19.3% this year, reaching $334.74 million during the same period.

Industrialists from Bursa exported $245.89 million to Spain during the same period, marking a 47.7% increase from the first quarter of last year.

Similarly, exports to the United Kingdom surged by 47.7% to $229.76 million.

Automotive, apparel and machinery lead export growth

Automotive, ready-to-wear, and machinery and parts lead exports In Bursa, where major companies such as OYAK Renault, TOFAS, Bosch and Karsan operate, the automotive industry's exports in the January-March 2024 period were recorded at $1.82 billion.

This reflects a 5.4% increase from the $1.73 billion in exports during the same period last year.

Representatives of the ready-to-wear and apparel sector, which ranks second in Bursa's exports, reached $390.67 million in exports in the first quarter.

The machinery and parts sector, ranking third on the list, recorded exports of $328.86 million in the three months.

Other contributions to Bursa's exports in the first quarter came from the textile and raw materials sector with $328.43 million, steel with $260.67 million, chemical substances and products with $200.97 million, furniture, paper, and forest products with $183.71 million, iron and non-ferrous metals with $146.98 million, and the climate control industry with $130.32 million.

Bursa's total exports across 15 sectors, including cement, leather and leather products, other industrial products, electrical and electronic, ship and yacht services, carpet, and fresh fruits and vegetables, amounted to $308.01 million.
