Hundreds of Londoners march for cease-fire in Gaza

Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators have marched through central London to call for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza.

The march, organized by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), started in Parliament Square, passed through Whitehall and ended in Hyde Park.

In a statement issued by the PSC regarding the protests, it said: "We are preparing to march in London in our hundreds of thousands to urge our government and institutions to end their complicity in Israel's genocide in Gaza."

Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was among the protesters, carrying banners at the front of the crowd, while the Metropolitan Police maintained order around the square.

The pro-Palestinian march intersected with a pro-Israel demonstration in Pall Mall and some of the crowd stopped to display their banners in front of the police cordon.

Nevertheless, most protesters continued chanting slogans and peacefully walking past the demonstration.

Deputy Commissioner Matt Twist acknowledged that the protests have caused fear and uncertainty in Jewish communities and emphasized the force's commitment to impartial policing.

The Metropolitan Police Service has assured that the upcoming protests will take place in a safe environment. "It is important to allow everyone to exercise their right to protest and to do so safely and lawfully," the statement noted.

Despite tensions and concerns, PSC director Ben Jamal described the march as "a love for the principle of the dignity and rights of all people."

He highlighted widespread support among the British public for an immediate cease-fire and a halt to arms sales to Israel.

The ongoing conflict has displaced 85% of Gaza's population, exacerbating the scarcity of essential resources such as food, water and medicine.

Despite legal authorities, fighting continues and humanitarian assistance is failing to address the dire situation in Gaza.
