Ensamble de Guitarras thrilled — and relaxed —  the audience at Teatro Municipal on Wednesday.
The eight guitars of Ensamble de Guitarras — all playing in stunning harmony — fixated Teatro Municipal’s packed out audience Wednesday afternoon as “Conciertos de Mediodía,” a series of special concerts, continued to “chill out” Santiago residents.

“Conciertos de Mediodía” kicked off in June and runs until the end of November, with one concert staged each month. The program strives to encourage Chileans to relax and “disconnect” by listening to the best available classical music. October’s offering, “seis miradas por Latinoamericana” (“Six Perspectives of Latin America”) showcased a selection of renowned composers and musicians.

The eight musicians harmonized brilliantly.

“‘Conciertos de Mediodía’ offers Chileans the chance to rest body and mind after a hectic day,” event organizers Amy Greenhalgh and Holly Huelskamp said.

The concert was spearheaded by Chilean composer Javier Farias and musical director Eugenio González.

“If people in Santiago, or in any other city for that matter, don’t take time to slow down or have a break, they will go crazy,” González told The Santiago Times. “The concerts give people the perfect opportunity to do just that, it has been very successful.”

Performers hail from all over Latin America including Colombia, Brazil, Argentina and Cuba.

However, it was Chile’s Ensamble de Guitarras who stole the show with harmonious melodies and incredible timing.

“We really want to develop Chile’s awareness for musical culture all over country,” a member of Ensamble de Guitarras said. “We are able to bring music to people who would not normally listen to it.”

Luis González will be playing the organ at Teatro Municipal on Nov. 12 for the next instalment of the soothing  series.
