Sixth World Forum on Energy Regulation, sponsored by Anadolu Agency, will be held in Istanbul between May 25 and 28
The sixth World Forum on Energy Regulation, WFER, sponsored by Anadolu Agency, will be held in Istanbul from May 25 to May 28.
The forum, hosted by the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA), will be held in Istanbul and the main focus will be the energy regulation.
The forum aims to develop a common approach to energy regulation by bringing together regulatory heads and representatives from developed and developing countries.
The forum will open with speeches by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkey's Energy Minister Taner Yildiz and EMRAs head Mustafa Yilmaz.
WFER's starting session will focus on trade-offs between investor and consumer interests, and the role regulators can play in balancing interests of stakeholders in the energy market.
The second day of the event will focus on "Benefiting from Change".
The challenges and opportunities arising from change in political context and rapid technological development as well as the role of innovations in enhancing regulatory practices will be discussed during the second day.
Alparslan Bayraktar, the chairman of the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA) and the EMRA commissioner, will be the moderators of the "Benefiting from Change" panel.
Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, director at the European Commission's Directorate on the Internal Energy Market; Susan Ackerman, vice president of the Oregon Public Utility Commission; Hafez El-Salmawy from the Egyptian Electric Utility and Customer protection regulatory agency, and Marie-José Nadeau, the chairman of the World Energy Council (WEC), will also participate in the panel.
The World Forum on Energy Regulation will include four main subjects for discussion: "Balancing the interests of shareholders", "Benefiting from innovation", "Regulation and sustainability" and "Ways to more rational regulation".
The forum will also hold high-level discussions on sustainable and reliable energy supply as well as common approaches to more reasonable and compatible regulatory systems.
The conference will interest regulatory agencies, energy companies, specialists and academics alike.
24 sessions 120 moderators
The event will have a total of 24 sessions with 120 moderators and speakers and various topics such as integrating energy networks, universal energy access and the role of the regulator in security of supply.
The forum will also host two special sessions relating to the struggle of energy-poor regions of the world and a G20 session, as energy will be one of the main topics of the G20 agenda in 2015 in Turkeys southern city of Antalya.
