Turkey's first emergency response ship begins service

Tukeys first and only emergency response ship, named after Nene Hatun, was put in service on Wednesday by the Turkeys Ministry of Health to be used 24/7 as needed on both national and international waters.
Speaking at the handover ceremony on May 27, Minister of Health Mehmet Muezzinoglu said that his ministry had already started to work on a new hospital ship which would be able to undertake all kinds of medical intervention and containing an emergency room, intensive care, operation room and is planned to be used in disaster situations.
The name, Nene Hatun was given in memory of a Turkish heroine who showed extraordinary bravery in the defence of Aziziye Cannon in Erzurum - an eastern city of Turkey - during the Ottoman-Russian war.
Nene Hatun Emergency Response Ship was built by Turkish engineers and workers in two years and has transportation capacity for 20 patients and 45 staff.
The ship will provide emergency services such as ship rescue, fire extinguishing, diving, dynamic positioning (DP II), housing for survivors, marine pollution detection and intervention, helicopter landing, maritime control and command, and stand-by in all-weather situations.
