PKK attacks military unit in southeastern Turkey

Militants of the outlawed PKK terrorist organization opened fire on Monday at a military base with mortars and anti-aircraft weapons in the southeastern Hakkari province's Dağlıca region on the Iraqi border, according to a statement released by Turkish General Staff.
There were no casualties due to the the incident, the statement said.
The General Staff added that the stationed military unit retaliated to the terrorist attacks immediately.
Monday's attack has been the second attack by the PKK since Saturday, the day before the general elections. The PKK has attacked the Turkish military and civilians many times despite the ongoing reconciliation process initiated in 2012.
Before the election, it was expected by the public that the PKK would end its armed insurgency against Turkey if the pro-Kurdish HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) would pass the 10-percent election threshold. In the elections, the HDP passed the threshold with 13.1 percent of the votes, but the recent attacks show that the PKK still attacks Turkish military forces in the southeastern region.
