Champions League quarter finals start with draws

In the first leg of UEFA Champions League quarter finals, Atletico Madrid drew 1-1 with Barcelona at Camp Nou on Tuesday to return home with advantage.

In the first leg of UEFA Champions League quarter final stage, Atletico Madrid managed to draw against Barcelona 1-1 in an away match on Tuesday night. In the showdown at Barcelona's home ground Camp Nou, the away team Atletico Madrid scored the opening goal of the match in the second half. Brazilian attacking midfielder of Atletico, Diego  found the net from outside of the box. However, home team Barcelona equalised thanks to their Brazilian flamboyant forward, Neymar scoring inside in the 71st minute. After Neymar's score, Barcelona upped the pressure in the remainder of the game, however, Atletico who found many chances after the equaliser failed to score the winning goal and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Turkish star of Atletico Madrid, Arda Turan, was substituted in the second half to be replaced by Cristian Rodriguez. However, Atletico returned home with an advantage because if the match in the second leg in Atletico's home ground Vicente Calderon ends in a draw, Atletico Madrid will kick Barcelona out of the tournament.

 - United managed to stop German title holder

The other match in the quarter final phase was played between England's Manchester United and the German team Bayern Munich on Tuesday. The battle in Manchester United's stadium, Old Trafford, ended in a 1-1 draw.

Serbian centre-back of the home team, Nemanja Vidic's header made Manchester United take the lead, and the away team Bayern Munich scored the equaliser with their German box-to-box midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger.

For the second leg, "Die Bayern" may lack two regulars -- Schweinsteiger who was sent off in the last minutes of the match and his team-mate Spanish defensive midfielder, and Javi Martinez who is also suspended for the match in Germany after collecting 3 yellow cards in total.

On Wednesday night the remaining two matches in the quarter final phase will be played, completing the first leg games. While Real Madrid host Borussia Dortmund in Madrid, French giants Paris Saint-Germain meet Chelsea in Paris. Both games will kick off at 20:45 CET.
