Galatasaray Liv Hospital defeated Friday the Red Star Telekom 74-65 in front of host team's 20,000 people on matchday three of the Turkish Airlines basketball Euroleague Top 16 competition in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

The match was considered high risk as it was the first time the two teams met since November 2014 when a Serbian fan, Marko Ivkovic, 25, was stabbed to death in Istanbul when an argument between rival fans turned violent.

Belgrade supporters, some wearing T-shirts with the victim’s face, waved signs saying for instance, "Hero's heart always lives, they cannot kill him,” while chanting the deceased’s last name. A picture of him was also spread in one section of the stands at the beginning of the match.

Some Red Star supporters burned Galatasaray jerseys.

Galatasaray Liv Hospital is now third in the Euroleague group E.
