The club said on its website Wednesday night that the 32-year-old player sustained a strained muscle injury in his right thigh.

Pepe was obliged to leave the field after being injured in the "El Clasico" against bitter rivals Barcelona on March 22.

Pepe was unable to play for Portugal against Serbia on March 29 and Cape Verde Islands on March 31.

The Portuguese international is expected to play in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals first leg against city rivals Atletico Madrid on April 14.
