Turkish national team defeats Russia 1-0 in final, qualifies for 2016 Rio Paralympic Games

Turkey wins first blind football Europe victory
Turkey beat Russia on Saturday and won its first IBSA Blind Football European Championship.

Turkey won 1 - 0 on the final match of the 10th IBSA Blind Football European Championship held in Hereford, England.

Former European champions Spain finished third after beating England 1 - 0 in penalty shoot-out. The match had ended 0 - 0.

Ten teams competed in the championship held on August 22 - 29. This was the first time ever ten teams competed for the title, up from 8 teams in the previous tournaments, the championship organizers said in their website.

Turkey had previously drawn against Germany 0 - 0 in the group stage, won 6 - 0 against Poland and 3 - 0 against Italy. It was also beaten 2 -1 by England and finished the group in second place with seven points (England first with 12 points). In the semifinals Turkey beat Spain 2 – 0 sealing the final against Russia.

As finalists, Russia and Turkey both qualify for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
