Turk Telekom Chairman: 'We stand together with Turkish people'
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday congratulated Turk Telekom Group Chairman Mohammed Hariri for exceptional service to Turkey on Tuesday.

Speaking at the 175th anniversary of the founding of the company, Erdogan called the attention to the importance of  Turk Telekom in Turkey’s telecommunication history, and expressed his gratitude to Türk Telekom for its contributions to the communication infrastructure and digital transformation ofTurkey. 

For his part, Hariri expressed his satisfaction with the work Turk Telekom is doing in Turkey. 

"When my company Oger Telecom won the privatization bid of Turk Telekom 10 years ago, I knew then that we made a sound decision to operate one of the most prestigious and the largest privatized corporation in Turkish history," Hariri said.

"Our family leader, the late Prime Minister, Refik Hariri, was truly fond of this great country. Today, the Hariri family is delighted to have realized his dreams of investing and growing in Turkey," Hariri said. 

“We will stand side by side with the Turkish people and the Turkish government in our journey towards the vision of 2023,” Hariri said.

Hariri pointed out that Turk Telekom has made investments which exceeded 50 percent of total investment in Turkey’s telecom infrastructure. Total investment by the company will reach 22 billion Turkish Lira ($8.2 billion) by the end of this year.

Free Internet offered

"Our goal is to break the digital divide and meet all of Turkey’s communications needs,” CEO Rami Aslan said. 

Aslan also announced that Turk Telekom will provide Internet free of charge for anyone who has never before had an Internet connection installed at home. The free Internet connection is provided on the basis of 4 GB with a speed of 4 MBPS.

Today 1 out of every 10 homes in Turkey is connected to Turk Telekom's fiber service, a number that surpasses the average in Germany, Spain, France and Italy.

 "We are here to transcend Turkey from ‘good enough’ technologies to a state of the art, smart and ground-breaking digital environment. And therefore, we are pleased to take part in many digital transformation projects implemented by our government," Aslan said.

Aslan said that they are making Turkey a regional hub and a digital center. "Our goal is to help establish Turkey as a regional technology development centre connecting east and west. Operating in 19 countries, Turk Telekom International successfully represents our country and our Group on the world capacity and fiber connectivity stage and connects continents." 

"We are now working on rolling out a single fiber connection with full redundancy that starts in Frankfurt, Germany and ends in Shanghai, China. Two continents and many countries will communicate and engage together through one hub. One historical hub, Istanbul,” Aslan said.
