Missouri state senator arrested in Ferguson
A Missouri state senator was arrested in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson Monday night.

Sen. Jamilah Nasheed’s arrest, confirmed by St. Louis County police, took place outside of the Ferguson Police Department. She was walking and standing in the street in violation of a city ordinance at the time of her arrest, according to local media.

A representative with Nasheed’s office said that she should be released later Tuesday, and that he was not aware of any charges against the senator.

Ferugon and St. Louis have been the scenes of mass demonstrations following the shooting death of unarmed black 18-year-old Michael Brown by white Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson.

Brown's death in August set off weeks of mass protests that drew thousands to the area, and which have since continued at various levels. Large gatherings again returned to the area earlier this month with organizers held four days of mass protests that drew demonstrators from across the country.

Among protesters’ demands is the indictment of Wilson for Brown’s death. Fears continue to mount that violent demonstrations will return to the area if a Grand Jury fails to indict Wilson.
