Fifty people died on Sunday when a Boeing 737 passenger airliner crashed on landing at an airport in the Russian city of Kazan, the capital city of the autonomous Republic of Tatarstan. Russian officials published a list of the casualties, which includes Irek Minnikhanov, a son of Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov, and Aleksandr Antonov, an official from the Russian intelligence service FSB who was responsible for the self-governing republic. Russian President Vladimir Putin offered his condolences to the relatives of the disaster's victims. The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations earlier said the plane, which belonged to Tatarstan Airlines, had taken off from Russian capital Moscow, 720 km northwest, but exploded upon impact while trying to land in Kazan, killing forty-four passengers and six cabin crew. Meanwile, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dimitri Medvedev have expressed their condolences to the relatives of the 50 people who died in a plane crash Sunday night in Kazan, the capital city of the Russian autonomous Republic of Tatarstan. Prime Minister Medvedev said he assigned the Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov to carry out an investigation into the incident.
