Turkish economists say their country's economy grew by 4 percent in the fourth quarter in 2013, as a report on the official growth figures will be released on March 31 by the Turkish Statistical Institute, TurkStat.

Twenty-three economists participated in Anadolu Agency's (AA) 'Growth Expectation Survey,' released on Wednesday. The highest economic growth percentage predicted among the economists for Q4 in 2013 was 4.8 percent while the lowest was 2.5 percent.

The survey said the economists expected a 4 percent year-end growth in 2013, which was at 2.2 percent in 2012. The highest expectation by economists over a year-end growth in 2013 was 4.2 percent, while the lowest was 3.6 percent.

The economists were also asked in the survey about their expectations for the year-end growth this year. The survey shows that 22 economists expected a 2.4 percent growth in 2014.

According to latest data by TurkStat, Turkey´s growth rate was 4 percent in the first nine months in 2013. Turkey´s medium term economic program by the treasury said the country´s official figures for the growth rate would be 3.6 in 2013 and 4 percent this year.

The European Commission's winter forecast on 25 February downgraded its expectations for Turkey's economic growth in 2014 and 2015.

The report forecast predicted Turkey´s economy to grow by 2.5 percent in 2014 and by 3 percent in 2014 – 0.5 percent less for this year and 0.8 percent less for 2015 than predicted in the Commission's last forecast in November.
