Germany and China will further intensify their bilateral cooperation in economy, trade and foreign policy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Friday.

She made the remarks during Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang’s visit to Berlin.

Merkel and Li co-chaired the third intergovernmental consultation meeting between Germany and China, which was attended by their 26 ministers.

The two countries also signed agreements in economy, agriculture, science, research and education fields after their meeting.

Aerospace giant Airbus signed a tentative agreement worth €5,5 billion to sell 70 A-320 passenger aircraft to China.

Automobile giant Daimler also signed a one billion Euro deal with Beijing Automotive Industry Corporation.

German Chancellor praised the progress in Sino-German ties.

“We have summarized our cooperation under the keyword ‘innovation.’ We have developed a framework for action,” Merkel said.

He added that China would be the partner country for the world's largest computer trade fair, the CeBIT 2015.

The German Chancellor underlined that Sino-German intergovernmental consultations were not limited to economy and trade, but also included dialogues on foreign policy and human rights issues.

“Our discussions include other formats that are important to us. These are dialogue on the rule of law and human rights,” Merkel said.

Chinese premier Li praised frequent contacts between Chinese and German politicians, and hailed the growing cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

“One can say that this is really the locomotive for cooperation between China and Europe,” Li stressed.

China is Germany’s most important trade partner in Asia. In 2013, Germany’s exports to China amounted to €67 billion, while its imports from China reached €73.4 billion.
