European Union, Russia and Ukraine to discuss gas payments
Senior representatives from the EU, Russia and Ukraine are to meet in Brussels on Tuesday October 21, 2014 to discuss Ukraine's payments to Russia for its gas supplies.

European Commission Vice-President Oettinger, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Valentinovich Novak and Ukrainian Energy Minister Yuriy Prodan will attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko reached a "partial agreement" on payment for gas supplies for Ukraine over the winter period.

Putin said at press conference after the meeting on Friday in Milano that he and Poroshenko had agreed an accord "for the partial resumption of gas deliveries" at least through the winter.

Poroshenko said "progress had been made; but we reached no concrete result on gas".

However, he said there was confidence about "the possibility of finding a solution before the meeting in Brussels with European Commission representatives".
