Turkish Navy vessel arrives at Mogadishu as part of defense deal with Somalia

A Turkish Navy vessel arrived at the Port of Mogadishu on April 23, marking the implementation of a defense and economic agreement signed between Somalia and Türkiye in February of this year.

The arrival of the Kinaliada F514 comes two months after the historic agreement between the two countries, in which Türkiye committed to providing maritime security assistance to Somalia.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, several ministers and Turkish Ambassador to Somalia Alper Aktas attended the welcoming ceremony at the port.

President Mohamud expressed gratitude to Türkiye, referring to it as a "friendly and fraternal nation" that has consistently supported Somalia.

He thanked Türkiye for its commitment to Somalia's protection through the agreement, emphasizing that it will strengthen Somalia's navy.

Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur described the defense agreement as a testament to the strong bond between the two countries.
