UK launches Integrated Procurement Model to speed up equipment delivery

The U.K.'s procurement arm, Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) has launched the ambitious Integrated Procurement Model (IPM) to speed up the delivery of equipment to the armed forces.

In February 2024, the Minister for Defence Procurement James Cartlidge acknowledged the necessity for the U.K. to acquire military resources that are capable of being used in combat, coordinated across different areas, and able to work effectively with the U.K.'s allies.

He argued that the U.K. should adopt a new standard for prioritizing speed and ensuring consistent and timely delivery.

On May 1, at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), a prominent defense and security think tank in the U.K., Andy Start, the CEO of DE&S, provided a report on the advancements made in the IPM.

After the introduction of the Gateway in March, Start announced that the remaining components of the operating model will achieve minimal viable product status by autumn, and the entire program will be fully operational by next year.

The new DE&S operating model, Gateway, offers a uniform and centralized entry point for all new capability requirements within DE&S. This tool will enable DE&S to make timely decisions about resolving military requirements.
