Izmir Chamber requests support for EXPO 2020

Ekrem Demirtas, Chairman of Izmir Chamber of Commerce, requested support for Izmir's EXPO 2020 bid from the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry (ASCAME) and chairmen of the states in the Mediterranean basin by mail. Demirtas emphasized EXPO 2020 hosted by Izmir would be "a Mediterranean basin EXPO" in the letter he sent to the 16 chairmen of the states in the Mediterranean basin and President of ASCAME Mohamed Choucair, the statement released by Izmir Chamber of Commerce said. "Izmir hosting EXPO 2020 means the 5 million of the 20 million tourists expected to visit Izmir to travel to surrounding states by cruises or tours. Therefore, Izmir EXPO 2020 will also be an opportunity for Mediterranean states to draw investment," the letter said according to the statement released.
