Turkish Airlines (THY) conducted its first flight to the capital city of Tripoli in Libya after a hiatus of 10 years.

The THY aircraft landed at Mitiga International Airport in the capital city of Tripoli, where a ceremony was held.

Libya's Minister of Transportation Muhammed esh-Shuhubi, Türkiye's Ambassador to Tripoli Kenan Yilmaz, Türkiye's Directorate General of Civil Aviation Prof. Kemal Yuksek, Libya's Director General of Civil Aviation Abdurrahman bin Yusuf, and THY's General Manager Bilal Eksi attended the ceremony.

Libya's Minister of Transportation Muhammed esh-Shuhubi expressed his appreciation to the Turkish government for its efforts in restarting THY flights. Shuhubi emphasized that THY's flights would encourage other international airlines to take similar steps.

Highlighting the need for training and cooperation in maintenance and repair matters for aviation institutions in Libya, Shuhubi said, "THY is the most suitable partner for meeting this need for us. I hope to come together again for the start of THY flights to other airports in Libya."

Turkish Ambassador Yilmaz stated that Türkiye and Libya are determined to enhance their relations in the field of transportation, as in all other areas.

He emphasized that this development marked a historic turning point in the relationship between the two countries.

Yılmaz mentioned that THY plans to start flights to Benghazi and Misrata in the near future.

During the ceremony, speeches were also delivered by Director General of Civil Aviation Prof. Kemal Yuksek and THY's General Manager Bilal Eksi.

Following the ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the commencement and scheduling of THY's flights to Libya was signed between officials of the two countries.
