Foreign Minister Fidan meets U.S. Armed Services Committee delegation

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan welcomed a delegation from the U.S. Armed Services Committee on March 28.

"In Ankara, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan met with Mike Rogers, Chairman of the US House of Representatives' Armed Services Committee, Ranking Member Adam Smith, and their accompanying delegation," stated the ministry.

The delegation is scheduled to meet with Türkiye's National Defense Minister Yasar Guler on Friday.

The discussions are expected to address Türkiye's national security interests "at the highest level," with a particular focus on matters such as counterterrorism and U.S. support for the PKK/YPG terror group.

Moreover, talks are expected to cover the F-16 procurement and modernization process, which is pending U.S. congressional approval.

The F-16 sale to Türkiye is expected to cost $23 billion.

The sale and modernization of F-16 fighter jets to Türkiye have emerged as a focal point of discussions in recent months. Some United States Congress members put Sweden's accession to NATO as a condition to F-16 sales to Türkiye.

As Türkiye approved Sweden's bid, Ministry of National Defense announced on Feb. 29 that they received the receipt of F-16 proposal from the U.S.
