Türkiye's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Sedat Onal, emphasized the need for reform to strike a balance between functionality and effectiveness at the U.N. He also stressed the necessity of equal representation within the U.N.
Ambassador Onal, who has been appointed as Türkiye's Ambassador to Washington, along with his wife Figen Onal, hosted a farewell reception at the Turkish House. The reception was attended by numerous permanent representatives of U.N. member states, U.N. officials, diplomatic personnel, and members of the Turkish-American community.
In his address, Onal said, "Despite facing the challenges of our time, the U.N. continues to be the most inclusive global platform for addressing global issues."
He emphasized the importance of not losing hope despite some recent setbacks, highlighting the need to establish a common ground on critical issues. Onal underscored the necessity of reform to strike a balance between functionality and effectiveness and emphasized the importance of equal representation within the U.N.
Onal pointed out that making progress in this regard as soon as possible would be beneficial for humanity. He stressed that peace, security, development, and human rights, which are the fundamental priorities of the U.N., are interconnected issues that need to be addressed comprehensively.
