Turkey's policy is not interest-oriented, but value-oriented, PM Erdogan

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that Turkey did not adopt a policy that defended a particular person or institution in Egypt but a policy that protected universal values and principles, and added, "Turkey's policy is not interest-oriented, but value-oriented." Speaking in Justice and Development (AK) Party's 6th Traditional Iftar Dinner for Ambassadors, Erdogan said that Turkey was a friend of all the countries across the world, and added they did not have any desire in the region rather than peace, tranquility, prosperity, and solidarity.  He said, "Turkey does not adopt a policy that defends a particular person or institution in Egypt but a policy that protects universal values and principles. Turkey's policy is not interest-oriented but value-oriented." Erdogan, reminding that Turkey was not against the regime in Syria because of sectarian reasons, said "This regime persecuted people of all walks of life. 100,000 people have been killed in Syria so far. The regime still continues to kill. May not I call this regime as killer? You have to reach out these people all the time."

Urging Russia, China, and Iran to support the negotiation process in Syria, Erdogan said "These countries have great responsibilities to solve this crisis. Otherwise, I believe that there won't be forgiveness throughout history for killing 100,000 people or millions of people living outside their country."

-New Constitution-

Stating that Turkey needed a new constitution, Prime Minister said "We have great reforms in the area of freedoms. We have paved the way for freedom of expression."

He reminded that 38 of 48 agreed articles of new charter within constitution drafting process were about fundamental rights and freedoms and added:

"There is no one kept in prison in this country just because of the freedom of expression. Those who are in prison either encouraged the terrorism and got involved in terrorist organizations, or had unregistered guns."

Stating they were hopeful about the new constitution, Erdogan said, "We keep on working in a determined way. We have promised to our citizens about the new constitution and we will keep our promise."

He stressed that Turkey would become a really different country in terms of peace, safety, and stability at the end of the process.

"We maintain the process what we name "Solution Process" in order to end terrorism problem which has been continuing for 30 years. When the process ends successfully, Turkey will have achieved a significant reform, get rid of its burdens" said Erdogan.
