Turkey’s European Union bid is a very important innovation process, Turkey's EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis said on Friday. Bagis said Turkey’s founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, foresaw European Union at 1920s. “Ataturk said ‘to have peace in Europe, a Balkan union should be established. But that is not enough. That union should turn into a European Union.’ Ataturk was one of the visionary leaders of the European Union,” Bagis said at the opening of Turkey’s Innovation Week. Bagis noted that Turkey’s EU negotiation process that started 8 years ago is a very important innovation process for the country, adding that Turkey is very keen on reform process. “Democratization package that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan unveiled on September 30 was a part of that innovation process.” Turkey’s Innovation Week is organized by Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) and will end on Saturday. During the congress, important figures such as Prof. Dr. Sebastian Thrun, Google VP, Prof. Dr. Anthony Atala have given speeches. As a part of the week, TIM will select 30 students and all of them will visit the European Organization for Nuclear Research’s center in Geneva, Switzerland.
