Police detain over 800 in raids against Daesh and PKK terror
The number of detainees in Turkey's nationwide operation against terror groups has reached 851 Sunday, police say.

The suspects are accused of being members of the Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK), Daesh, and leftist organizations, attacking security forces and staging illegal demonstrations.

Turkish police started operations on Friday across the country with the goal of finding those having links to terror groups including Daesh and the PKK.

The move came after the recent deaths of Turkish citizens, police officers and soldiers, in a wave of terror attacks.

The latest such incident happened Sunday in Istanbul when a police officer was shot dead while trying to detain a suspect in Gazi neighborhood.

He was shot on the chest while trying to disperse a group “belonging to an illegal organization” after they blocked a main street and attacked police officers with sticks, stones and Molotov cocktails, according to the police.

In Istanbul, number of detentions is over 100 including at least 37 foreigners, and a Daesh suspect, known by the pseudonym “Abu Hanzala”.

A total of 145 people have been held in the southeastern region that includes Sanliurfa, where a suicide bomb blast Monday killed 32 people.

During the operations against terror groups, police have seized guns, ammunition, hand-made explosives, machetes, fireworks, and petrol bombs.
