Horizon 2020 National Launch Event is Organized in Istanbul

National Launch Event of Turkey for Horizon 2020, the research and innovation support programme of the European Union, took place in Istanbul.

Framework Programmes, been implemented as European Commission’s science and technology support mechanisms for the last 30 years, continue with Horizon 2020 Programme. Being an associated country to the Framework Programmes since 2002, Turkey is now participating to Horizon 2020 Programme.

The National Launch Event of Horizon 2020 Programme, which is to be implemented between the years 2014-2020 with a budget of nearly 80 Billion Euros, is organized on 4th-5th of June 2014 at Hilton Bosphorus Otel in İstanbul.  Fikri Işık, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology; Ambassador Stefano Manservisi, Head of EU Delegation to Turkey; Robert-Jan Smits, Director General for Research and Innovation; Ahmet Yücel, Acting Undersecretary of Ministry for EU Affairs; Prof. Yücel Altunbaşak, President of TÜBİTAK; and over 900 participants attended to the event.

International Agreement on the association of Turkey to Horizon 2020 Programme is signed between Ahmet Yücel, Acting Undersecretary of Ministry for EU Affairs on behalf of Turkey and Robert-Jan Smits on behalf of EU. 

At the event, representatives and experts of the European Commission provided information on the content of Horizon 2020 Programme, current calls and rules of participation. Besides parallel sessions on Information and Communication Technologies and smart cities, support mechanisms for individual researcher activities as well as the mobility of researchers are introduced. Moreover, trainings on writing collaborative projects and SME dedicated schemes are also held. 

First Call for Proposals under Horizon 2020 are Published

Calls for project proposals under Horizon 2020 Programme are  being launched periodically and financial support is provided to successful projects after independent evaluations. The first calls for proposals with a budget of around 15 Billion Euros for the period of 2014-2015 are launched on the 11th of December 2013. Industrial organizations, SMEs, Scientists, public institutions, individual researchers and civil society organizations can apply to the calls.

Awards and Incentives from TÜBİTAK for the Successful Participation of Turkish Researchers

TÜBİTAK EU Framework Programmes National Coordination Office (NCO) will take actions in order to enable Turkey to benefit from the Programme to the highest extend. In this context, researchers will be supported for their travels, organization of events, writing projects, and pre-evaluations of the proposals. Besides, successful Turkish researchers in Horizon 2020 Programme will also be financially awarded by TUBITAK.
