Netherlands advance to quarter finals after beating Mexico 2-1 thanks to goals scored in the last minutes of the play.

Two goals in the final three minutes sealed a 2-1 comeback victory for Netherlands over Mexico in Round of 16 game played at Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza, on Sunday

Following a dire first half, Mexico took the lead after their 25-year-old forward Giovani dos Santos made a ferocious missile from outside the box in the 48th minute, 1-0.

In the 88th minute, Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder equalised for Netherlands by hitting a volley towards the lower corner, 1-1.

The Netherlands were awarded a penalty kick when Mexico's defender Rafael Marquez tripped Arjen Robben in the penalty box during the injury time of the game. 

Dutch forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar -playing for Germany's Schalke 04- converted the penalty by sending Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to the opposite way, 2-1. 

With the knock-out victory, the Oranges became the third team to advance to quarter finals after Brazil and Colombia.

In quarter finals Netherlands will take on the winner of Costa Rica vs Greece game.
