Host nation Brazil barely has defeated Colombia 2-1 in the 2014 FIFA World Cup quarter final match played at Estadio Castelao, Fortaleza.

Brazil took the lead early in the match on Friday, with defender Thiago Silva tapping the ball inside the far post after a corner kick whipped by Neymar Junior in the 7th minute.

In the remaining time in the first half, both teams played in a quick and contentious way in an effort to score, but it ended 1-0.

In the 64th minute, Silva was shown a yellow card after committed a foul on Colombian goalkeeper David Ospina. Silva is suspended for the next game against Germany.

In the 67th minute, Colombia's goal was disallowed as team captain Mario Yepes was in an offside position.

Two minutes later, Brazil doubled the score after David Luiz hit the jackpot from long range. Defender Luiz's missile from freekick flew past Ospina, bringing the score to 2-0.

In the 78th minute, Colombia were awarded a penalty after Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar made a mistimed tackle against Colombian forward Carlos Bacca in the box.

Colombian star James Rodriguez successfully converted the penalty by sending Cesar wrong way, making it 1-2. It was his sixth goal in the Cup.

Through stoppage time, Brazilian flamboyant forward Neymar was obliged to leave the pitch after apparently suffering an injury after a tackle.

Nicknamed "A Seleção" (The Selection), Brazil will be playing against Germany in the semi final game at Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte, on 8 July.
