Germany's Bayern Munich signed Real Madrid's Spanish central midfielder Xabi Alonso on Friday.

On Bayern Munich's official Twitter account, the club published a message for 32-year-old Alonso on Friday: "Welcome to Bayern Munich, Xabi Alonso."

German sports website "Transfermarkt" says that Bayern Munich completed the transfer of Xabi Alonso for an 8-million-euro ($10.5 million) fee.

The German team's head coach Pep Guardiola praised the former Real Madrid player, saying, "Everyone knows Xabi Alonso. He is a big personality, a great professional and very intelligent."

During his professional career Xabi Alonso played for Real Sociedad, Liverpool and Real Madrid. He won many titles, including two Champions League titles with two different teams, (Liverpool in 2005 and Real Madrid in 2014), one Spanish La Liga title with Real Madrid in 2012.

Xabi Alonso also helped his teammates in the Spanish national football team win two European Championship titles, in 2008 and 2012, and one World Cup title in 2010.

Bayern Munich's new arrival put an end to his international career on August 27.
