Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund signed their ex-player Shinji Kagawa from English side Manchester United on Sunday.

According to the statement made on the German team's official website, Borussia Dortmund's Japanese attacking midfielder Kagawa signed a four-year deal until 30 June 2018.

Borussia Dortmund Sporting Director Michael Zorc said, "the possibility of signing Shinji Kagawa from Manchester United only arose for the first time in the last few days."

"Naturally we decided to add his enormous quality to our squad once again," he added.

"The day I left, I said in an interview that the chapter of Borussia Dortmund was not closed in my life. I wanted to fulfill my dream of playing in the Premier League. Kagawa said and added, "Now I am simply delighted to be back in Dortmund with this fantastic team and set-up and these unique fans. Borussia Dortmund is like a family and I am proud that they did not forget me and that I can belong to it once more."

25-year-old attacking midfielder Kagawa played for "Die Schwarzgelben" (The Black and Yellows) between 2010 and 2012 and then he was purchased by Manchester United.

Kagawa, having scored 21 goals in 49 Bundesliga matches during his spell in Dortmund, made a major contribution to the German side which was crowned the "back to back" domestic league winners in 2011 and 2012.

Borussia Dortmund will be playing against English giants Arsenal, Turkish club Galatasaray and Belgian side Anderlecht in UEFA Champions League Group D.
