Real Madrid top of Spanish league after week 13
Real Madrid hit the top of Spain's highest football division, La Liga, in week 13 after beating Malaga 2-1 in a tight away game on Saturday.

French striker Karim Benzema and Welsh winger Gareth Bale found the net for Real Madrid while Malaga's consolation goal was scored by their experienced striker Roque Santa Cruz in injury time.

Defending La Liga champions Atletico Madrid defeated Deportivo La Coruna 2-0 at the Vicente Calderon Stadium in Madrid on Sunday. 

20-year old Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez and Turkish star Arda Turan scored for The Red and Whites.

Their win against Deportivo secured Atletico Madrid third position in the league.

In the unrest and fighting between Atletico Madrid and Deportivo fans before the match, one person died and 12 were injured.

Barcelona snatched a 1-0 win against Valencia in an away game played at Mestalla Stadium on Sunday.

Spanish defensive midfielder Sergio Busquets' late winner secured the victory for the Catalan giants.

With 31 points in total, Barcelona are now second place in the league.
