Viktoria Zeynep Gunes brings first womens gold medal to Turkey in swimming.

Viktoria Zeynep Gunes, who represented Turkey in the 2015 International Swimming Federation (FINA) World Championship, finished first in the 200 meter breaststroke category in the eighth and final stage held in Dubai on Saturday and brought the first gold medal from this championship to Turkey in women's swimming.

17-year old Gunes competed in the 50 meter and 200 meter breaststroke categories on Saturday, in which she respectively finished fifth with a time of 31.39 seconds and first with 2 minutes and 22.87 seconds. Güneş had obtained the bronze medal in the 100 meter breaststroke category in the first day of the competition.

Ahmet Bozdogan, chairman of the Swimming Federation of Turkey, told an Anadolu Agency reporter that the competition was important as it acted as a rehearsal for the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Minister of Youth and Sports Akif Cagatay Kilic congratulated Gunes for her success.
