In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said: “Turkey has learned with sorrow that the Turkmen majority neighborhood in the district came under mortar attack from a mountainous area, which killed two little brothers and injured seven people.”

It added: “Turkey remains committed to stand by the Iraqi government and people in combating terrorism.”

No group has yet claimed responsibility.

In October, Iraqi forces seized control of Tuz Khurmatu following the withdrawal of Kurdish Peshmerga fighters from the town.
