Counter-terrorism operation conducted in Hakkari province

2 terrorists 'neutralized' in southeastern Turkey

Turkish security forces have neutralized two terrorists in southeastern Turkey, according to the Interior Ministry on Tuesday.

The terrorists were neutralized by gendarmerie command in an air-backed operation in rural areas of Hakkari province, the ministry said.

Turkish authorities often use the term "neutralized" in statements to imply the terrorists in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

Anti-terror operations are ongoing in the region, it added.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children and infants. The YPG is PKK's Syrian branch.
