'Canakkale victory reshaped Türkiye's history,' says Turkish official

Communications Director Fahrettin Altun said that Canakkale Victory and Martyrs' Day reshaped Türkiye's history, commemorating a pivotal triumph in World War I. 

Altun described the Canakkale Victory as a monumental event that had global repercussions, reshaped history, epitomized patriotism, and was characterized by acts of heroism.

He emphasized that this victory is a crucial lesson in Turkish history, showcasing the nation's enduring determination and bravery through unity and solidarity. 

He underscored the significance of the "Canakkale Spirit," representing the country's unwavering commitment to defending its independence under any circumstances.

Altun stressed the importance of passing down the essence and significance of Canakkale Victory to future generations. 

Tens of thousands of soldiers lost their lives in a fierce battle over a century ago in the Gallipoli campaign, which played a crucial role in World War I.

The Ottoman Empire successfully defended against British and French forces seeking to secure a sea route to Russia, ultimately boosting Turkish morale and paving the way for the War of Independence and the establishment of the Turkish Republic in 1923.
