The army said in a statement the detained Palestinians were suspected of planning attacks against Israeli civilians and security forces.

A Palestinian woman was also arrested Monday morning after allegedly stabbing an officer at the Qalandiya checkpoint between Jerusalem and the West Bank administrative capital Ramallah.

Israel's intelligence agency Shin Bet said in a statement that Asya Kabaneh, 41, decided to attack the soldiers because of family problems and hoped they would kill her.

More than 6,000 Palestinians prisoners are held by Israel according to Palestinian rights groups, with more than 1,500 currently engaging in a mass hunger strike to protest conditions inside prisons.
