Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has sent a letter of thanks to Turkish aid agency’s head for sending aid to his country after an earthquake.

According to a statement by Turkish Red Crescent, Nieto wrote: “We Mexicans are grateful for the humanitarian efforts of this noble institution for the contributions they have made to the victims.

“I offer you my good wishes, and I find this an opportunity to present you once again my preeminent respect,” he wrote to Turkish Red Crescent head Kerem Kinik.

The Red Crescent had distributed food aid to around 17,000 people and given financial aid to Mexico’s Red Cross after an earthquake hit Pueblo and Morelos states.

Mexico was hit by a powerful 7.1 magnitude of earthquake on Sept. 19 that killed over 200 people.
