'US to move embassy to Jerusalem in a year', says Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday the United States will relocate its embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem in a year, according to Israeli media.

'US to move embassy to Jerusalem in a year', says Netanyahu

“My solid assessment that the U.S. will likely move the embassy much sooner than everybody think, within a year from now,” he told reporters during a visit to India, Israeli daily Haaretz reported.

Last month, U.S. President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and ordered the relocation of the embassy to the holy city.

The U.S. policy shift has triggered outcry in the Arab and Muslim world and a wave of protests in the Palestinian lands that left at least 16 people dead.

On Tuesday, the U.S. administration said it will suspend $65 million in aid to the Palestinians.

Jerusalem remains at the heart of the Israel-Palestine conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem -- now occupied by Israel -- might eventually serve as the capital of a Palestinian state.
