50 positions were allegedly struck earlier this week in Israel’s ‘largest operation in Syria since 1974’

Israel army provides maps of Iran sites struck in Syria

The Israeli army on Friday published photographs and maps of what it said were the “Iranian targets” it attacked earlier this week in Syria.

In a tweet, Israeli army spokesman Avichdai Adraee posted maps showing four targeted sites allegedly linked to Iranian intelligence in Syria's southern Tel al-Qulayb, Tal Ghurba, Tel Miqdad and Tel Nabi Yusha areas.

He also posted photos of two sites, one of which, he said, was a logistics facility located north of Damascus while the other was a base for Iran’s elite Quds Force in the Al-Kiswa area on the outskirts of Damascus.

“Targets also included sites linked to Iranian-backed militias near Syria’s southern border, including observation and intelligence-gathering posts,” Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth quoted an Israeli army source as saying.

According to the newspaper, the operation -- dubbed “House of Cards” -- lasted an hour and a half, during which a total of 50 sites were targeted.

“This was the largest [Israeli] operation against Syria since 1974,” Yedioth Ahronoth quoted one unnamed military source as saying.

According to an Israeli army statement, the targets “were not operating eastward, southward or northward -- i.e., against opposition fighters in control of the border areas -- but westward toward Israeli military positions in the Golan [Heights]."

The Israeli army claims that, before the operation, Iranian forces in Syria fired 20 rockets into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, all of which were shot down by Israel's Iron Dome air-defense system.

In an earlier statement, the Israeli army alleged that its fighter jets had struck 50 military targets associated with Iran's Quds Force inside Syrian territory.

The strikes, it claimed, had come in response to “rockets fired by the Quds Force [from inside Syrian territory] at IDF [Israeli Defense Forces] forward-positions in Golan”.

Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights since the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.
