British government data released on Monday showed that 20,890 more cases of the novel coronavirus were detected in the country over the past 24 hours, with total infections now at 894,690.

A further 102 fatalities were also confirmed, raising the death toll to 44,998.

As cases continue to climb, some areas transitioned into the highest tier of coronavirus restrictions.

Nottingham, a city in central England, and its surrounding areas will enter Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions from 12.01 a.m. (0001GMT) on Thursday, local authorities have said.

Warrington, a town in northern England, will also enter Tier 3 just after midnight on Monday.
