Spain's PM deems Israel's actions 'global threat,' advocates for Palestinian state

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has recently brought international attention to the escalating conflict in Gaza, calling Israel's military actions a "global threat."

Addressing the dire situation, Sanchez emphasized the urgent need for the recognition of a Palestinian state, which he argues aligns with Europe's geopolitical interests.

Speaking to lawmakers in Madrid, Sanchez asserted, "Israel's 'disproportionate response' in the Gaza war with Hamas risks destabilizing the Middle East, and as a consequence, the entire world."

"The international community cannot help the Palestinian state if it does not recognize its existence," Sanchez reiterated his position.

His words underline his commitment to Palestinian statehood, a cause he championed during recent visits to Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.

By the end of June, Sanchez has hinted at Spain's possible recognition of Palestine as a sovereign nation.

Further strengthening his call for European solidarity, in late March, Sanchez, alongside the leaders of Ireland, Malta, and Slovenia, declared their readiness "to recognize Palestine" if it would aid in resolving the conflict.

The ongoing war in Gaza, which has lasted over six months, has resulted in catastrophic human losses.

According to the latest reports from the health ministry in Gaza, controlled by Hamas, there have been at least 33,360 Palestinian casualties, most of whom are women and children.

In a recent development that reflects the complexity of the situation, Israel is reportedly considering a swap deal proposed by the US CIA Director.

The deal involves exchanging 900 Palestinian prisoners for 40 Israeli hostages held by Hamas, with the condition of deporting the released prisoners to other countries rather than allowing them back into Gaza or the West Bank.

This evolving situation is closely monitored by Türkiye, reflecting the broader regional concerns.

Türkiye's recent decision to impose trade restrictions on Israel, aimed at urging a cease-fire and facilitating the flow of humanitarian aid to Gaza, underlines its commitment to finding a resolution and its active role in addressing regional issues.

As nations like Spain and Türkiye take distinct but converging paths toward addressing the crisis, the international community remains focused on finding solutions to end the conflict and restore stability to a region long plagued by turmoil.
