Israeli army prepares to invade Rafah despite international opposition

A senior Israeli military official announced Thursday that the army will launch an attack on the city of Rafah as part of Tel Aviv's ongoing military campaign in the Gaza Strip, despite growing international criticism.

The decision came shortly after the Israeli army withdrew from the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza after an intensive eight-day operation that left behind scores of casualties and widespread destruction.

'We are going to invade Rafah'

Addressing troops on the outskirts of the Nuseirat camp, Dotan, commander of the 932nd Battalion, said: "We are going to Rafah," and called on his soldiers to fulfill their duties to the best of their ability, Army Radio reported.

Dotan emphasized the expectations of the Israeli people from their actions in Rafah.

Despite the objections of various countries, including the United States, the Israeli army announced its intention to enter Rafah, where over 1.4 million people have taken refuge from the ongoing conflict in the Palestinian territories.
