Israel's low-level assault on Iran's nuclear facilities sparks tension

In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, explosions were heard in the Iranian city of Isfahan early Friday morning. The blasts, which reportedly targeted a major Iranian air force base, come just weeks after Iran launched a retaliatory strike on Israel following an attack on its consulate in Syria.

While Iranian officials maintain their air defenses successfully intercepted the attack, state media acknowledged "loud noises" in Isfahan. Gen. Siyavash Mahindost, an Iranian army commander, assured the public there were "no casualties" and "no harm" to their nuclear facilities.

Reports remain conflicting regarding the extent of the damage. The state-run IRNA news agency downplayed the incident, stating there was "no major devastation." However, unconfirmed claims suggest the city of Tabriz may have also been targeted.

The source of the attack remains unclear. While some U.S. media outlets, citing anonymous officials, claim Israel launched a missile strike, neither Israel nor Iran have officially confirmed this.

Israel informed US of assault

The Israeli Channel 12 report, indicating that the U.S. was aware of the assault on Iran's nuclear facilities but did not support Israel, reflects a complex diplomatic situation.

Khamenei's birthday

Israel's retaliation took place on Friday, which marks the birthday of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. 

It was claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deliberately chose this day for the attack.

Flights resume to normal

In response to a recent military engagement between Iran and Israel, Iranian authorities suspended flights in major cities like Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz. Following the conclusion of the hostilities, air travel gradually returned to normal, reflecting a broader easing of tensions across the country.
