King Charles, UK royals sever ties with 200 patronages

On Sunday, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles and other senior British royals would divest from nearly 200 charities and organizations. This decision follows a review of their commitments to more than 1,000 groups.

After Queen Elizabeth's death, an investigation was conducted to examine all charitable organizations and institutions where she, Charles, and his spouse, Queen Camilla, served as patrons or presidents.

Elizabeth supported 492 organizations, whereas Charles and Camilla were affiliated with 441 and 100, respectively. The assessment determined that the monarch and king retained only 830 organizations or transferred them to other members of the royal family.
Organizations may use royal patrons to raise public awareness of their work and promote widespread recognition of their accomplishments.

The largest charity for the armed forces, the Royal British Legion, the Jockey Club, the Dogs Trust, and the Wildlife Trusts, an organization dedicated to nature conservation, will maintain the royal connection.
