New defense minister appointed in Ukraine
The Ukrainian Parliament appointed Colonel-General Mykhailo Koval as its new interim defense minister following Igor Tenyukh’s resignation over the management of the Crimea crisis, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry has said.

The news comes a day after the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council decided to withdraw its soldiers from Crimea.

Aleksandr Rozmaznin, a defense ministry official, said Tenyukh failed to issue clear instructions to the troops resulting in nearly 50 percent of Ukrainian soldiers surrendering in Crimea. Although, Tenyukh said he offered his resignation as some did not like the actions he took regarding Crimea.

The Ukrainian Parliament, Verkhovna Rada, initially refused to accept Tenyukh’s resignation, but later 228 deputies in the parliament gave their approval.
