Israel releases injured Gazans with Red Cross' help
Israeli army forces on Friday released five injured Palestinians, who had been detained in southern Gaza Strip one day earlier, a Palestinian source said.

The five injured Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces in the bombed Khuza'a village in eastern Khan Younis city.

According to eyewitnesses, Israeli forces have detained nearly 100 Palestinians and taken them to an undisclosed location.

Israel has stepped up its onslaught on eastern Khan Younis since Wednesday, leaving an unknown number of dead and injured under the rubble, according to medics at the scene.

Since July 7, Israel has launched a devastating military offensive in the Gaza Strip, with the stated aim of halting rocket fire.

At least 815 Palestinians have been killed and more than 5000 injured in the relentless Israeli attacks on the blockaded territory.

Gaza-based Palestinian factions, meanwhile, have continued to fire rockets at Israeli cities in response to the ongoing Israeli attacks.

According to official Israeli figures, 34 Israelis – 32 soldiers and two civilians – have been killed since hostilities began.

Israel's operation "Protective Edge" is the self-proclaimed Jewish state's third major offensive against the densely-populated Gaza Strip, which is home to some 1.8 million Palestinians, within the last six years.

In 2008/9, over 1500 Palestinians were killed – the vast majority of them civilians – during Israel's three-week-long "Operation Cast Lead."
