Obama speaks with world leaders to coordinate Ebola response
President Barack Obama spoke with the leaders of the U.N. and France on Monday and discussed the threat of Ebola and a coordinated response.

According to a White House statement, Obama spoke with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to review the international response to the epidemic in West Africa.

The president expressed his concerns about the need for more robust commitments and the rapid delivery of assistance by the international community.

"Citing the threat the epidemic poses, the president stressed the need for all U.N. member states to support the U.N. appeal, and to provide the personnel, equipment, and supplies required to stop the epidemic at its source," said the statement.

Obama also spoke by phone with French President Francois Hollande to coordinate Ebola efforts, but also to discuss the threat posed by the ISIL terror group.

They were settled that treatment facilities should be established in the affected African countries, and that all countries must play a role to stop the spread of the virus.

"They also discussed additional measures that may be taken to stem the spread of Ebola outside the region already affected, including passenger screening upon departure and arrival," the White House statement said.

Obama was briefed by public health officials and the national security team on the second diagnosed case of Ebola in the U.S.

A health care worker who helped attend to Thomas Eric Duncan, the first person to have been diagnosed with the virus in the U.S., and who died last week from Ebola, tested positive Sunday for the virus.

The president received status updates on the investigation into the apparent breach in safety protocols at the Dallas hospital and any remedial actions underway to mitigate similar exposures.
