'Wise King Alija' commemorated in Bosnia Herzegovina

Bosniak politician Alija Izetbegovic, who brought independence to his home country, is commemorated in Bosnia Herzegovina on his eleventh death anniversary.

Having struggled against fascism and Chetnik ideology during the Second World War and communism afterwards, Izetbegovic whose people embraced him as "father" put great effort into his country's independence in the 1990s, becoming the first Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Alija Izetbegovic (8 August 1925 – 19 October 2003), renowned as the "Wise King" by Bosnians, was also a philosopher and an author. Two of his most notable books were 'Islam Between East and West' (1980) and 'Islamic Declaration' (1970).
