A high school student in Washington state shot and killed one classmate and injured four others before killing himself Friday, according to U.S. media reports.

Jaylen Fryberg, a freshman at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, suddenly approached a table in the school’s cafeteria and without saying a word, opened fire on fellow students.

Marysville police confirmed that two students died at the scene. The four injured -- two boys and two girls -- were transferred to Seattle-area hospitals.

The condition of one of the male victims remain critical, according to media reports.

The shooting sent shockwaves throughout the small city, located about 35 miles north of Seattle, with locals organizing a candlelight vigil at an area church Friday evening.

American television network NBC reported that President Barack Obama was briefed on the shooting.

Fryberg was named last week as the school's freshman Homecoming prince, according to CNN.

Authorities have not released a motive for the shooting.
